Arts of Intention, LLC is an insurance friendly agency. Currently I am not in network with any companies. I am in the credentialing process. Any changes will be posted here and, clients notified of option to use insurance. Using Insurance for Out-of-Network Benefits Clients may choose to maximize their out of network insurance benefits to cover treatment. I work with Mentaya to submit claims to your insurance for possible coverage. When you select this option, an email to create an account will be emailed to you. Arts of Intention will use Mentaya to submit the charge to insurance for your reimbursement. This service is free to the client. You can sign up using Arts of Intention's personal link: https://mentaya.com/inviteclient/jqgF8SOu2redLJSkLG28Clients may also request a superbill or receipt for services to self-submit to insurance. These are emailed out weekly. Why Clients Choose Private Pay CounselingClients may choose to pay out of pocket, or private pay. Choosing private pay counseling gives clients more control, privacy, and flexibility in their mental health care. For many people, it creates a more personalized and effective therapy experience since treatment is guided by the professional standards of therapy practice. Not all treatments are covered by insurance, limiting the scope of treatment. Greater Privacy and ConfidentialityWhen insurance is used for therapy, a mental health diagnosis and treatment information often become part of the client’s permanent medical record. Private pay counseling allows clients to seek support without requiring a diagnosis to be shared with an insurance company. Clients value the added discretion and confidentiality this provides. Insurance companies will request records as part of their quality control, meaning for your service to be covered records will be provided when requested. Insurance companies can place limits on the type, frequency, or length of sessions they will cover. When clients private pay for services, treatment decisions are based solely on what best supports the client’s goals and progress, rather than outside authorization requirements.Freedom to Seek Support Without a Diagnosis Some clients seek coaching, consultation or, counseling for personal growth, relationship concerns, stress management, life transitions, or burnout rather than a diagnosable mental health condition. Private pay allows clients to receive support without needing to meet insurance criteria for a medical diagnosis. Coaching and Consulting services do not receive a diagnosis and are not eligible for insurance payment. Investment in Long-Term Well-BeingMany clients view private pay counseling as an investment in their emotional health, relationships, career, and overall quality of life. Prioritizing mental wellness can lead to healthier coping skills, stronger relationships, improved confidence, and greater resilience over time.Good Faith Estimate A good faith estimate of care is a written (and sometimes oral) notification from a health care provider or facility about the expected charges for a scheduled or requested health care item or service. It is designed to help uninsured or self-pay patients plan for costs before receiving care. Rates for services are published on the website. A review of fees and rates will be evaluated during the 4th quarter of a calendar year. Any rate change will be provided in writing 60 days before the end of the calendar year and will apply to all clients, new and current. Treatment plan progress, including schedule will be reviewed to determine a collaborative approach to treatment. Arts of Inspiration does not offer a sliding scale rate but does offer a hardship rate for individuals using private pay services only. Clients using in or out of network insurance benefits will be charged the full rate of service. Payment is due at time of services through the Simple Practice Application, credit/debit or check at appointment. I do not accept cash payments.

When a session is scheduled, this spot is reserved for you. A minimum of 24 hours (1 day) notice is required for re-scheduling or cancelling an appointment. Appointments that are rescheduled within the same week (subject to availability) will not incur a penalty. The full session fee will be charged for sessions missed without such notification. Most insurance companies do not reimburse for missed sessions.A no-call/no show to the first appointment will be considered a cancellation or mind change. I will not reach out to reschedule. After 2 missed no-call/no-show or, last minute cancellations the referral will be cancelled. As a mother to active teens, and daughter to aging parents; as well as a human being- I understand that there are circumstances that occur out of our control. Once care is established, one grace session is offered annually- no questions asked, no charge. Inability to adhere to scheduled commitments may result in termination of services. I will make efforts to overcome barriers, however 3 missed/reschedule sessions in a rolling 3-month period will be reviewed for case continuation.
In the event of Inclement Weather in the area of the office (Lawrence, KS) or city/county where the client resides the Inclement Weather Policy will be enacted.
It's Kansas and Weather happens... a lot. The Arts of Intention office will be open during inclement weather situations, provided power is available. Please review the policies for how I handle inclement weather. I try to be as proactive as possible. If hazardous weather is forecasted, in your area or mine, we will connect in advance of the weather event to make arrangements. Therapist Availability:If your therapist cannot make your appointment, I will make every effort to contact you of this as soon as possible. Efforts will be made first through email, and then by phone. I do not live in Lawrence city limits and will consider road and weather conditions in and around the area close to our appointment time before making a determination. Telehealth Appointments:Unless your counselor contacts you via email or phone, plan on keeping your appointment as scheduled. If a power outage occurs and you need to cancel your appointment, contact your counselor via email at hello@artsofintention.life or our office by phone at 786-266-1716 as soon as you are able before your scheduled appointment.*Please note that for most insurances' telehealth requires video for the session to be covered. In-Person Appointments:If the office remains open and you do not attend or notify me of cancellation, standard no-show fees apply. If the public school system(s) in Lawrence, KS or, the city/county where a client resides is closed due to weather, and/orParents who have to absorb last-minute childcare duties due to weather-related school or organization closures may be permitted to cancel and reschedule any appointment falling during the weather-affected time period with no late fees applied, and/orIf road conditions prevent Arts of Intention clients or staff from attempting travel to the office, then:When appropriate, Clients will be given the option to move their session to a virtual (telehealth) format. Termination is the conclusion of the therapeutic relationship, which can occur for various reasons: successful completion of treatment goals, client choice, therapist decision, or external circumstances such as relocation or conflict of interest. The end of therapy can be a positive experience with a long-lasting impact on both the client and therapist. When successful, termination is an opportunity for closure. Together, the client and therapist take a step back and look at the personal growth that has slowly unfolded over the course of treatment—growth that may have gone unnoticed, had attention not been called to it.In reality, termination starts long before the end of therapy. In the very first sessions, the therapist will begin to lay the groundwork for termination by setting clear therapeutic goals and describing therapy as a time-limited process. As the therapeutic relationship comes closer to an end, termination will be discussed more frequently. Growth and healing are not linear and there may be a time when clients meet a 'maximum benefit'. When a plateau occurs therapist and client will evaluate the treatment plan to determine the next steps that is in the best interest of the client's progress. In some cases, it may mean discharge from our plan, and referral out to a different therapist or provider for more focused care. While I am confident in my skills and what I know, I do not know everything- but I have a great network of providers to help refer to, if needed. Therapy is a collaborative process. If a client consistently no-shows, frequently cancels at the last minute, or shows a clear lack of participation during sessions, they are demonstrating their disengagement from the work. While it’s important to explore any barriers, I view this consistent behavior as communication that the client is not ready or willing to participate in the process. If we find ourselves in this situation, I will reach out to discuss the pattern and a clear plan of discharge if disengagement continues. This work can be very uncomfortable, and it is important to brave and vulnerable to try new things. If we change nothing, nothing will change. I will typically discharge your case after 3 absences or 2 weeks of no-contact following 3 attempts to schedule. A new intake will be required if a re-start to services is desired.
Clients are strongly discouraged from having their therapist subpoenaed or having me provide records for the purpose of litigation. Even though you are responsible for the testimony fee, it does not mean that my testimony will be solely in your favor. I can only testify to the facts of the case and, if qualified to do so by the court, my professional opinion. Asking a therapist to provide confidential records or testify can damage the trust built in a counseling relationship with a client—especially if I am still seeing that client in therapy. If I am subpoenaed to testify or provide records in a case where my client is a child, the therapeutic relationship is effectively ended, and it is very likely I will not continue to provide services to that child/family. If I, Karen Knappenberger, LSCSW, am to receive a subpoena, then the attorney or office staff will need to call my office and set up a time for the subpoena to be served during office hours. I will request a minimum of 72 business hours' notice of any Court appearances so that schedule changes for my clients can be made within a reasonable time frame. Please note: If a subpoena or notice to meet attorney(s) is received without a minimum of 72 business hours notice, there will be an additional $300 express charge. When it comes to court action, the following fees are in effect: Preparation Time (including submission of records): $400/hour (billable in 15-minute increments) Phone Calls: $200/hour (billable in 15-minute increments) Depositions: $300/hour (billable in 15-minute increments) Time required in Giving Testimony: $400/hour (billable in 15-minute increments) Time away from office due to Depositions/Testimony: $400/hour (billable in 15-minute increments) All attorney fees and costs that are incurred by the therapist as a result of legal action. Filing document with the court: $150 The minimum charge for a court appearance: $2000A retainer of $2000 is due at least 72 business hours before the scheduled court appearance. The remainder of the costs will be billed after the court appearance and will be due upon receipt. If the therapist is subpoenaed and the case is reset with less than 72 hours' notice prior to the beginning of the day of the scheduled subpoena, trial, and/or testimony is not given, then the client will be charged $500 (in addition to the original retainer of $2000 for having to appear in court). All fees listed above are doubled if the therapist has priorly been scheduled to be out of town, for personal or professional reasons at the time of the court appearance.
